A great diet and health coach should make your feel comfortable.  They should be passionate about what they do, care about your well-being, and want to help you meet your goals. Many people claim to be experts in this area when really, they have some tricks up their sleeve.

With the Covid restrictions, I was not exercising as much as I wanted to.  Also, I was self-soothing with sugar, quite a bit sugar, if I am honest.  I tried every Monday morning to quit sugar forever and ever and exercise more.  Every Monday, I started with the same resolve.  And by Tuesday, feeling grumpy, having a headache from sugar withdrawal, suffering from the inability to concentrate, I would binge on sugar.  Any sugar.  And I would immediately feel better.  Next week will be different – I kept promising myself. So why bother exercising?  I would wait until the following Monday for that too.  This pattern went on for months.  Then I decided I needed a diet and health coach.

10-Tips-to-Find-the-Best-Diet- Health-Consultant

I went through a few diet and health coaches.  To make sure that you find the right person for the job, here are ten things to look for that made a big difference to me.

1) A great diet and health coach will understand where you are coming from – they must know your situation to offer personalized advice based on your needs yet make you accountable.

2) Another thing a great diet and health coach will provide is individualized programs tailored to each of their client’s needs.  We all need compassion for ourselves to be successful. That self-love is one thing.  And how you get there might be different from one person to another person.  But also the need to have a diverse diet plan for a person with diabetes than someone trying to maintain weight loss.

3)  They listen to you – being an expert does not mean you have all the answers. A good coach will listen to your needs and provide solutions and motivation that work for YOU and result in lasting change.

4) A great diet and health coach will help you eat more vegetables, fruit, grains – the good stuff. Cooking at home might be worth exploring, but meal kits and home grocery delivery services are options.  Or how to eat out and still not gain weight.

5) The first thing you want to do is have a diet and health coach who has experience in your specific problem.

6)  A diet and health coach is a great way to help you get started on the right foot. Or maybe you made a little progress and then got stuck.   Everyone is different, but we can all use some guidance regarding our diet or fitness goals.

7)  Maybe it is as simple as not getting enough sleep and needing to start getting more. Apparent solutions like this might be complicated for us to see, but an independent person will have the insights to know this problem and help with solutions.

8) If your doctor can explain to patients that having a coach is a proven way to help them get better, many patients would find it acceptable.   Start an open dialogue with your primary physician.

9)  Maybe recently you went through a traumatic event, and you might be suffering from the aftereffects.  It could be your struggle with depression, and you have never been able to lose weight before.  Some antidepressants cause you to gain weight.

10) Create a health plan after a diagnosis or to avoid a health diagnosis.

Who does not want to live a healthy life? With obesity on the rise, you must protect your health by creating or adhering to a plan. Obesity leads to many diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers – so start now before these take over or if you have been diagnosed with an illness, work to make yourself healthier!  I had a cancer scare, which motivated me to get serious and find a diet and health coach.

Obesity is increasing at an alarming rate worldwide in America, leading to causes of death like heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancers. It would be best if you had protection for yourself. Knowing what risk factors may cause problems down the road, such as high blood pressure or cholesterol levels- related illnesses could consist of strokes or heart attacks, even possibly certain forms of cancer (CDC Adult Obesity Causes & Consequences). Creating a good health plan after diagnosis would be beneficial.

Also, you might be struggling with diabetes, and some diabetes medications will tend to put weight on.  Some depression medications have a side effect of weight gain.  Many medicines have these side effects, unfortunately.  So it would be best if you had a conversation with your doctor about a new medication that does not cause additional weight gain.

A diet and health coach will give you thoughtful, personalized advice. And they will stick with you until you have achieved the goals that you set out for yourself.

I hope this article has helped convince you of the benefits of a great diet and health coach. I needed one. Peggy was the coach for the job.    But over the next few weeks, with Peggy’s help, I did exercise more, and now I am a gym rat (which is new for me!).  And more impressive, I cut way back on the sugar!  Giving up sugar was a month and a half of pure hell, but I did it.  My diet is closer to plant-based.  Currently, I sleep way better and longer.  I got into my skinny jeans since my stomach is much flatter.  Best of all, my labs were the best they have been in a long time.

My diet and health coach helped me lose weight using the Kaiser Permanente plant-based diet plan and love exercise. When I started working out with Peggy, she gave me lots of hints on meeting my goals while getting healthy successfully! She also broke down huge goals into manageable parts so that it was less overwhelming for someone like me, who usually gives up quickly when faced with challenging tasks. Moreover, she made sure I had a plan in place.  Also, Peggy realized I needed the motivation to pull through if ever hit by any obstacles standing between me and success.   No matter what kind of personal struggles you may be facing right now or have been struggling with before this point-Peggy is here for you! She helped me find time for my day I did not even know I had!

Many health coaches offer a free consultation to help you decide whether they are the right person for you.   Peggy provides a free 15-minute session on the phone.  Email Peggy at Peggy@DietCommunity.com with a few days and times that will work for you to set up an appointment.  Take advantage but be aware that it will not answer every one of your questions in 15 minutes or less.

The best way to make sure that nothing gets in your way is to have another human being coaching you through it and guiding you through your ups and downs, and having a DietCommunity to share the struggle!
